New Konrad+King Brand Identity
When I started this design firm it was known only as KONRAD. After 3+ years, the I became We, and we upgraded it to KONRAD labs to reinforce that we were a Southern California design firm working to imagine, experiment and design new experiences. Our branding materials, including logo, type, colors, etc. were good at showing that we were an eclectic SoCal company but they seemed too boutique, lacked memorability, and it didn’t scream of the premium quality. This year we were joined by an award-winning Creative Director, Dane Storrusten. Dane set out to strengthen the identity by creating a stronger wordmark, restore balance and memorability in the name and other branding materials. He explored a variety of options. He collected feedback on design direction from colleagues, clients and friends. We had numerous conversations about our goals, our client’s needs, the personality of employees and the company.
We decided that the best way forward was a new name. Today we are Konrad+King. Who is King? Ben King joined the firm as a Partner after 20 years of experience creating product concepts at Qualcomm Research, Kyocera, HP and numerous startups. We added his name to the firm’s name as advertising, architecture and law firms like to do. Get it?
Why the name change? We think that Konrad+King better communicates that we are a design firm with a personality. We are a design firm of personalities. The core personality traits of Konrad+King are influential, daring and original. If that’s what you need then we’ve got it. These are the traits of our designers and the product experiences we make.
